P1 Registration 2026 Phase 2B: 33 Schools Oversubscribed, 31 to Ballot

The 2026 Primary 1 registration exercise has reached its first major balloting checkpoint. Thirty-three primary schools were oversubscribed in Phase 2B, and 31 will conduct balloting, according to the latest MOE vacancies and balloting update.

The number of oversubscribed schools is unchanged from 2025. However, the distance category at which each school ballots matters more to an individual family's chances than the headline count alone.

The five most competitive Phase 2B schools

Based on applicants relative to available vacancies, the most competitive schools were:

An interesting distinction: St. Joseph's Institution Junior and Nan Chiau Primary School each received 79 applications, the highest raw applicant counts. They are not at the top of the oversubscription ranking because they had 40 and 43 vacancies respectively.

Where will balloting take place?

Balloting priority starts with Singapore Citizens (SCs) living within 1km, followed by SCs living between 1km and 2km, then SCs living beyond 2km. Permanent Residents follow in the same distance order. Read our P1 balloting guide for a fuller explanation.

Balloting for SCs living within 1km: 22 schools

Oversubscribed, but no ballot

Two schools received more applicants than vacancies but will not conduct a ballot:

• Canossa Catholic Primary School: 21 applicants for 20 places. MOE states that places are available for all SC and PR applicants residing within 1km.
• Fairfield Methodist School (Primary): 27 applicants for 22 places. MOE states that places are available for SC applicants residing within 2km.

This happens because oversubscription counts every applicant, while balloting is decided after citizenship and home-school distance priority rules are applied. Applicants in a lower-priority category can be unsuccessful without a random ballot being necessary.

What parents should do next

Phase 2B results will be released on Monday, 27 July 2026. Phase 2C, which is open to children without a prior connection to the school, runs from 9am on 28 July to 4.30pm on 30 July, with results on 11 August.

MOE says all 179 primary schools will have Phase 2C vacancies, with the updated vacancy figures due by 1pm on 27 July.

1. Check the final MOE vacancy count after it is published.
2. Confirm your official home-school distance category.
3. Compare recent balloting history, not just this year's Phase 2B demand.
4. Identify at least one realistic alternative before registration opens.
